Une histoire, un patrimoine : monuments

The Arbellara square tower: (only visible from the outside) it overlooks the western side of the village. It is a tall square house with crenels, which gives it a defensive look. The Corsican notables had it built to house and provide the local people with shelter.
The Spina Cavaddu bridge on the Rizzanese river, between Arbellara and Sartene: this 13th century Genovese bridge was often destroyed by floods. The latest one happened in 1994, which explains the bridge's current state. It is characterised by a single arch and the pronounced crack in the coarse narrow road.
The Campomoro Genovese tower: this listed building is the most massive tower in Corsica and stands on the gulf of Valinco's southern shore. It dates from the 17th century and is the only tower surrounded by star-shaped ramparts. One can access it via an "interpretation" trail. The tower has had an exhibition recounting its history since summer 2007.
The Durazzos and Carabellis' houses in Fozzano: (only visible from the outside) the vendetta between the Durazzo and Carabelli families inspired Mérimée for his novel Colomba, The Carabelli's house, also called Torra Vecchia, dates from the 16th century. It has two machicolations on its southern side and two entrances on its eastern façade. It is 15m high and the front courtyard is crenellated.
Colomba's house in Olmeto (only visible from the outside) the heroin of Mérimée's novel died in her daughter's house in 1861.
The Calanca and Micalona towers in Olmeto-plage: (only visible from the outside) these towers stand on the gulf of Valinco's northern shore. They date from the beginning of the 16th century and are today privately owned.
Torra Nova in Propriano: (only visible from the outside) the tower was built in the 18th century in the present Sampiero area by order of Pascal Paoli.
Sartene's town hall: this building used to be the Genovese Governors' Palace. It bears the sculpted arms of Sartene and shelters several old master paintings from the 17th and 18th century.
